The main purpose of the course is the critical assimilation of leisure time issues (one of the four main functions of urban planning, according to the Athens Charter), the deepening in urban regeneration issues and the familiarizing with some new ideas that are mostly relevant with the contemporary international experience. The course aims: a) to provide knowledge for creating a comprehensive picture for leisure strategies and urban regeneration, b) to develop skills for the analysis and evaluation of planning and policies of an urban strategy focusing on leisure activities (tourism-culture-sports-entertainment) and urban regeneration, c) to provide specialized knowledge to people who are interested in working as planners and in businessed/organisations at firms related to leisure activities.
The course will focus on subjects such as: criteria for sustainable urban development, creative city, cultural clusters and urbanregeneration, special areas (museums, multiplexes), planning for time and leisure time, sport and urban regeneration, relationship between quality of life and leisure time, impacts on climate change.
