This course focuses to abilities. Obtaining knowledge and technical skills is only a marginal objective, and from this point of view the course is based upon basic knowledge acquired by the students in the framework of their first, undergraduate degree. Among the abilities the students are expected to acquire are comprised the understanding of the multifaceted character of spatial planning policy, its interpretation in relation to the specific conditions and priorities in each country/period regarding the strategic spatial organization, and the possibility of employment in the international planning market.
The course has advanced character and consists in oral presentations by the teaching personnel, and brief oral reports by the students. On the basis of an analysis of the historical evolution of the spatial planning policy on the international level, and taking into account the multiplicity of forms of planning and policies which are addressed by the Greek term «χωροταξική πολιτική» (regional planning, spatial development policy, spatial planning, raumordung, aménagement du territoire, pianificazione territoriale di coordinamento, wet op de ruimtelijke ordening κλπ.), the course aims at the creation of a typology of spatial planning policies, characteristic of specific countries and/or periods. xisting Regional Spatial Planning and Sustainable Development Framework of Thessaly.
