2007
Anestis Gourgiotis holds the position of Associate Professor of Spatial Planning at the Department of Spatial, Urban Planning, and Regional Development at the University of Thessaly.
He studied spatial planning at the University of Bordeaux in France, received his postgraduate degree in urban planning, obtaining the postgraduate degree “DESS Urbanisme Operationel” and completed his PhD thesis at the University of Thessaly, Department of Spatial, Urban Planning and Regional Development.
He served as the Director of the Spatial Planning Directorate within the Ministry of Environment and Energy, concurrently holding the position of Head of the Department of Special Spatial Planning Frameworks within the same Directorate.
Between 2002 and 2005, he acted as the National Representative of the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning, and Public Works to the Council of the European Union in Brussels. Ηe held the position of Vice-Chairman of the Metropolitan Planning Council within the Ministry of Environment. Furthermore, he contributed his expertise as a member of the Executive Committee for Coordination and Monitoring tasked with elaborating the Special Spatial Framework for Mineral Resources and Tourism.
He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Association of Business Parks (ESEPPA) and holds a position as an alternate member of the National Council for Spatial Planning within the Ministry of Environment and Energy. Additionally, he is an active participant in the permanent “Spatial Planning and Networks Committee” of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) and contributes as a member of the permanent Working Group “Business Parks” of SEV.
In 2016, he was awarded a scholarship by the French Government to pursue training at the French National School of Public Administration (École Nationale d’Administration – ENA) focused on “Public Policies: From Design to Evaluation.”
Since 2000, he has served as Special Scientific Staff at the Ministry of Environment. During this time, he has been extensively involved in various tasks including the preparation, evaluation, and revision of the Special Spatial Framework (RES, Tourism, Industry, Mountain Area, Aquaculture, Mineral Resources). Additionally, he has contributed to the assessment and revision of Regional Spatial Planning Frameworks, participated in drafting landscape specifications within Regional Frameworks, and been an active member of the National Commission for Landscape.
He has represented the Ministry of Environment and Energy at significant international gatherings such as the European Conference of Ministers responsible for Spatial/Regional Planning (CEMAT). Additionally, he has previously served as a representative for working groups within the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
In addition to his extensive professional engagements, he also imparts his expertise by teaching spatial planning at the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government. Furthermore, he contributes to training programs at the Institute for Training (INEP) of the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government.
Moreover, his involvement extends to serving as a scientific consultant for the preparation and organization of international conferences. Notably, he worked as a scientific associate at UNESCO in Paris during 1995-1996, further enriching his experience and expertise in the field.
