Apostolos Lagarias is assistant professor at the Department of Planning & Regional Development University of Thessaly (UTh) – Greece. He holds a Diploma and a Ph.D. (in 2004 and 2013, respectively) from the Department of Architecture, School of Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) and a Master Diploma from the respective Department of Rural & Surveying Engineering (AUTh). He has worked for over seven years as postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Applied & Computational Mathematics (IACM) in Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), and at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), School of Rural, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering. He has published a large amount of scientific papers in internationally reputable journals and has teached urban and regional planning cources at the Technical University of Crete (TUC) and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He has long-term experience as researcher, with his most recent individual research applying spatial analysis and spatial planning tools specifically targeted to the coastal zones in respect to Climate Change. He has extensively studied urbanization processes and particularly urban sprawl with the use of fractal geometry methods and simulation modelling. He has been a member of the Research Laboratory of Urban & Regional Planning, School of Architecture, Technical University of Crete (TUC) and since 2023 is a member of the Research Laboratory of Environment & Spatial Planning PRD-UTh.
